Announced in Singapore yesterday, Yoshihiro Narisawa?s two Michelin-starred Tokyo venture was also named the Best Restaurant in Japan at the awards.
Nihonryori RyuGin in Tokyo came second, followed by Nahm in Bangkok in third place; Amber in Hong Kong in fourth; and Restaurant Andre in Singapore in fifth.
A champion of sustainably sourced ingredients, Narisawa impressed judges with its ?unfettered imagination? and ?sense of drama?.
Passionate about the natural world, among Narisawa?s signature dishes are ?Soil? soup, ?Water? salad and ?Bread of the Forest.?
Narisawa has featured on the World?s 50 Best Restaurants list for the last four years, ranking at number 12 in 2011 and winning the Best Restaurant in Asia award for three consecutive years.
China dominated proceedings at the awards with 16 entries in the top 50 and the aforementioned Amber named The Best Restaurant in China.
Hot on China?s heels was Singapore with 10 entries in the top 50, including Andre at number five, which was voted the Best Restaurant in Singapore.
Japan came third in terms of entries, with nine restaurants in the top 50.
Meanwhile, Paul Pairet of Mr & Mrs Bund (#7) and Ultraviolet (#8) in Shanghai won the lifetime achievement award, while Duongporn Songvisava of Bo.lan in Bangkok won the Veuve Clicquot Asia?s Best Female Chef award.
Restaurants in India, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Indonesia also made the list, while modern French establishment Jaan in Singapore was named ?One to Watch.?
