Avon and Somerset Police said two people, a man in his 70 and a woman in her 60s from Crewkerne and Taunton, had been reported missing and were thought to be in the Beaminster area at the time of the collapse. The tunnel was closed on July 7 after a landslip and was only excavated by Doreset Fire and Rescue on Monday after they were contacted by police. Dorset Police said: ?At approximately 7:20pm yesterday, Dorset Police were advised that Dorset Fire and Rescue Service personnel had discovered a car under a large volume of earth outside the entrance of Beaminster Tunnel. ?The road has been closed and a cordon has been put in place while emergency service staff attempt to excavate the vehicle.? Beaminster Tunnel has been closed since the landslip, caused by the recent heavy rain, resulted in structural damage. Dorset County Council previously said the road would remain closed until September while repairs are carried out.
