Meet Patch, the Littlest Hobo wannabe who ventured off on an epic train journey but found his way back home thanks, not to a bark, but to? a tweet.
The dog?s adventure began on Tuesday evening when he went missing from his home in Kilcock, Co. Kildare.
Not known for his wanderlust, the six-year-old Jack Russell crossbreed had clearly decided it was time to see a bit of the world.
Reunited: Deirdre Anglin back with her Jack Russell terrier Patch after spotting a tweet about him on the website Twitter
Unfortunately he forgot to inform owners Deirdre Anglin and her sister Sin?ad about his eagerness to roam and their frantic search for him proved fruitless.
But Patch was on a mission, and yesterday morning?s 6.49am train to Dublin was his ticket out of town. He walked around a mile from his home to the local station, boarded the train and set off for the city.

On his journey he became friendly with two commuters, who kindly escorted him off the train at Pearse Street station in Dublin and handed him over to station bosses. His adventure was over almost as quickly as it had begun, but his owners were still frantic.
Deirdre Anglin, who works in? financial services, said yesterday: ?This morning my sister and I went onto Facebook to let people know that Patch was missing. But as I was on my way into work, I logged onto Twitter and spotted the tweet by Irish Rail saying that this dog has been found.?
More than 500 people retweeted the lost dog tweet by Irish Rail, which had a photograph of Patch attached, and within 32 minutes Miss Anglin, tweeted to Irish Rail: ?That?s my dog!?
Miss Anglin said: ?I was in shock when I heard he was found on the train. I rushed down to pick him up and we got the train home ? so he was on the train twice today.?
She said Patch is known to wander around their spacious neighbourhood but has never strayed this far.
?He would never go missing and? he definitely hasn?t gone as far as Dublin before!? she said.
?We have four dogs at home and all of them are family dogs so if one goes off, the family get very upset and the other dogs were missing him as well,? she added.
Barry Kenny, a spokesman for Irish Rail, said Patch ? who they had named Checker ? was a ?lovely, friendly? dog? and that he ?seemed to have enjoyed the train journey?.
Luckily Patch answers to tweets as well as barks.
The power of Twitter: The Irish Rail 'Lost dog!' message was retweeted 500 times in just 32 minutes
