Selecting A Youth Golf Coach For A Child

For children who start to get deep into the world of golfing, a qualified youth golf instructor is a necessity. Not many children have the talent and maturity to be successful in golf without proper coaching. Even world-famous professional golfers require a lot of coaching. Tiger Woods has always has a golf instructor since the first time his dad started coaching him as a toddler.

Not many parents will have tremendous success coaching their children like Earl Woods did. It is much better if parents can take on the role of champion for their kids. Giving a child unconditional support in their golf journey is a lot more beneficial for the relationship between parent and child, and unfortunately coaches have to play the bad guy occasionally.

With that in mind, it makes sense for parents to seek out a qualified golf instructor for their children. The first step is to ask around the area for any recommendations from other parents of young golfers. This serves two functions. It ensures that the instructor has previous experience, and it also ensures that the instructor has had previous success.

It also makes sense for parents to check with their local golf clubs to try and find a youth golf coach. Be careful to go with a coach who specializes in children. Many golf club pros will coach people of any age. This is a good thing normally, but children really need a coach who specializes in the fragile art that is youth coaching.

Golf is a very mental game, and children are doing a tremendous amount of mental development. The fragile nature of this development means it is crucial that kids have coaching that emphasizes the building up of self-esteem and a positive attitude. Kids who get this kind of positive coaching when they are young will bring these positive attributes forward with them in golf and beyond.

When parents find an instructor who has good references and is dedicated to coaching children, then it makes sense to schedule a meeting between the child and the instructor. It is a good idea to have a meeting to see if there is good match of personalities before purchasing lessons. Many times instructors will give a reduced-cost or even free initial lesson so parents and kids can see how they like the coach. Be sure to take advantage of this, and ask if it is a possibility if it is not mentioned.

As children age they oftentimes need to change instructors. The more advanced a player becomes, the higher quality of instruction will be necessary. Parents should always listen to their children if they say they need a new coach. This is essential to ensuring the growth of a child's game.
